About

Alex Pérez Sandoval: Sound Architecture & Artistic Identity

For over three decades, I have been a driving force behind some of the most influential projects in Mexican alternative rock. Operating from my studio, 3er Piso, in Zapopan, Jalisco, my work is dedicated to unveiling the artistic soul of every project through a production style that is profound, organic, and contemporary.

I have collaborated with cornerstone artists of the alternative scene—such as Siddhartha, Porter, Juan Son, and Azul Violeta—shaping a sonic aesthetic that has defined pivotal eras of rock and alternative pop in Mexico. From my creative hub at 3er Piso, I focus on comprehensive production, co-writing, and artistic direction, blending the warmth of organic instrumentation with the surgical precision of modern digital tools.

Artistic Direction & Co-Writing

My partnership with Siddhartha includes co-writing and artistic direction for multiple landmark projects. This includes the single “00:00”, winner of the 2023 SACM Success Award and a 2022 Latin Grammy nominee.

I also contributed as co-writer, co-producer, and engineer for the singles “Tú y Yo y Tú”, “Abrázame”, and “Escápate conmigo”, as well as the EP Miel de Azar (2024), featuring the track “Acapulco”, a 2024 Latin Grammy nominee.

Production & Alternative Legacy

Throughout my career, I have played a key role in the evolution of the Mexican alternative sound. I was instrumental in crafting the original sonic signature of Porter, collaborating on seminal works such as:

  • Donde los Ponys Pastan

  • Atemahawke

  • Cuxillo

  • La historia sin fin

Additionally, I served as co-writer, artistic director, and recording/mixing engineer for the album Mermaid Sashimi by Juan Son, whose track “Nada” was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2008 for Best Alternative Song.

Sonic Exploration & Mexican Tradition

As the producer behind Mariachi Rock-O, I developed the Sonidos de Jalisco trilogy—a project that reimagines rock and pop classics from various decades through the lens of traditional Mexican Mariachi, seamlessly integrating heritage with sonic innovation.

Artistic & Audiovisual Journey

I was an original member, co-writer, and producer of five albums with Azul Violeta, an experience that defined my ethos as a musician and director of studio sessions. My work also extends to post-production and sound design for cinema, including the films Todo el Poder and 3 Idiotas.

Honors & Recognition

  • Multiple Latin Grammy Nominations (2008, 2022, 2024)

Production Philosophy

My methodology is built upon:

  • Sound Architecture: Creating depth, dimension, and space within complex arrangements.

  • Synthesis & Texture Design: Developing unique sonic identities tailored to each artist’s vision.

  • Artistic Direction: Cultivating creative environments that empower artists to deliver their most authentic performances.
